VALERA and NATASHA Cherkashin

Valera and Natasha Cherkashin have worked as an artistic duo since 1983, exploring the cultures of the USSR, Russia, the United States, Great Britain, Germany, China, and beyond. They have presented more than 215 solo exhibitions and over 300 art performances worldwide.
Their work has been featured in more than 70 television programs, including CNN and Deutsche Welle, and discussed in over 250 publications such as The Washington Post, Artforum, Art+Auction, and Stern.
Their works are held in major public collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Library of Congress, the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, and other leading international institutions.
Their artistic practice combines photography, collage, installation, performance, video, and digital media, often integrating documentary and conceptual approaches within multi-layered visual systems.
Selected Awards
2020 — Grant from the Creative Union of Artists of Russia for participation in the project “Caucasian Riviera”.
2019 — The Cherkashins were ranked #15 in the In-Art TOP 100 list of recognized artists.
2018 — Award of Excellence “Imaginary Cosmos of Astana” from the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the II International PHOTOfest.KZ.
2016 — Maya Brin Residency Program Grant, University of Maryland, USA.
2011 — Award from Friends of the United Nations and the Government of China for an original global art project.
2011 — Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, “Transportation Evolution. Dubai Experience”, UAE.
